Julius Karoubi's Unmarked car is a mixed media work combining polymer plaster, acrylic paint, grout, and stained pine. The surface is organised as a field of irregular geometric fragments held within a grid of grey grout lines, with cream and white elements making up the majority of the composition and smaller pieces carrying accents of red, orange, teal, and brown distributed across the field. Each plaster fragment carries its own painted mark or passage of colour, applied with visible brushwork, so the work reads simultaneously as a unified surface and as a collection of discrete painted objects. The finish throughout is matte with slight surface irregularities, and the relief is shallow, keeping all elements close to a single plane. This is a work that rewards sustained looking at close range, where the variation between individual fragments, in colour, mark, and texture, becomes legible.
