Julius Karoubi's Two by four is a mixed media work combining glass, polymer plaster, acrylic paint, grout, and stained pine. The piece is structured as four equal vertical columns, separated by white lines, presenting what reads as a flattened architectural or urban map: street grids, block formations, and hatching patterns in terracotta and brick orange sit alongside fields of olive green, cream, and black, with accents of purple, yellow, red, and teal concentrated in the left-hand sections. Triangular forms at the upper edge of each column introduce a mild symmetry across the composition, while the outer columns echo one another in their organisation. The surface is materially varied throughout, with grout lines reinforcing the grid logic of the imagery and visible shifts in texture marking the transitions between plaster, glass, and paint. There is no atmospheric recession; depth comes instead from the layering of unlike materials pressed into a single plane.
