Julius Karoubi's Tasting a purple flower is a mixed media work combining polymer plaster, acrylic paint, grout, and stained pine. The piece presents a vertically stacked arrangement of horizontal registers, each divided into geometric fragments by white grout channels that run consistently across the surface, producing an effect closer to tilework or mosaic than to conventional painting. Across these registers, the palette shifts from coral and tan tones at the top through dark olive green, yellow with purple accents, and pale blue with turquoise marks, settling into dark brown at the base. The acrylic paint is applied in solid colour blocks with a matte, textured finish, and the grout lines create a shallow relief that keeps the surface visually active while remaining physically restrained. The stained pine support would be worth examining at the edges to understand how the built layers meet the ground.
