Julius Karoubi's Layers of glue, 2026, is a mixed media work combining polymer plaster, acrylic paint, grout, and stained pine. The composition is divided vertically into two halves: the left rendered in pale cream and light grey with accents of bright cyan blue, the right in dark olive-green and charcoal with cream-coloured pathways running between sections. White grout lines divide both halves into irregular polygonal forms, producing a shallow but legible relief across the surface, with a lower register settling into muted teal-grey tones. The raised plaster creates a genuine topography, casting fine shadows that shift with ambient light and give the work a material presence distinct from painting. The finish is matte throughout, and the seams between sections remain fully visible, making the constructional logic of the piece apparent rather than concealed.
