Julius Karoubi's An orange butterfly is a mixed media panel combining polymer plaster, acrylic paint, grout, and stained pine. The work is composed of four vertical sections arranged side by side, each occupying a distinct portion of the surface: pale yellow and cream to the left, green and teal moving inward, grey-blue at center-right, and orange with pink at the far right. Throughout all four zones, irregular hand-formed plaster fragments are set with white grout lines that create an interlocking, relief-like topography, with the recessed channels casting fine shadows across the matte surface. Brushwork is visible on the individual plaster pieces, and the overall surface reads as shallow but physically present, with uneven dimensional variation across the panel. A stained pine border frames the composition at the edges, separating the worked surface from the wall.
