Lenticular images, intimate sculpture, and a quiet insistence that it is alright to feel happy.

The first room of our off-season project belongs to Yves Scherer, and it is a personal show. Put the artist in the middle and two kinds of image pull apart on either side. The three lenticular works, all titled Imagine, are the aspirational pictures, polished portraits of Kate Moss that shift and dissolve as you move past them, never quite holding still, the way a public image never does. The sculptures are the opposite, intimate and meant to be lived with, among them New York Minute, which Scherer modelled in clay with his young daughter, and two white onyx figures set in the former fitting rooms. A collector by instinct, he gathers from his own life and from the images we all share, then fits the pieces together. What holds the room together is a quiet conviction: that it is alright to feel happy, and that beauty is worth trusting even when the world is difficult.
